In the end of February, Ilmarine has been granted the ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification for its project management.
The ISO 14001 certification guarantees that the company has an adequate management system to control the environmental impact and to continually improve the environmental performance of its activities in a systematic, effective and sustainable way.
The 18001 standard has provided a framework for establishing a management system to track and continually improve worker health and safety.
“Our customers are increasingly expecting state-of-the-art environmental and occupational health and safety control from their suppliers. The practices are demanded by Ilmarine’s activity field: marine- and heavy metalworking construction, industry, with very high risk of pollution and occupational injury,” explains Karel Saar, Member of the Management Board.
This certification formalizes a process the company has been undertaking for a long period of time.

Ilmarine integrates the ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 standards into current ISO 9001:2008 compatible management system.
Ilmarine clients describe the company as professional with great service and excellent quality in every output. Company’s strict Handbook of Quality sets high standards for the project, environment, health n’ safety management, for which reason many responsible private and state tenders had been won in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, United Kingdom etc.
Nevertheless, next big step is made by ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification to prove for the future business partners Ilmarine’s high-level project management skills and to build their confidence in business collaboration.
First DNV audits have been passed successfully and by taking into account the smoothness of the procedure evaluation, then ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certificates will hang on Ilmarine’s wall already in the end of February.
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for the environmental management of businesses. It prescribes controls for those activities that have an effect on the environment. These include the use of natural resources, handling and treatment of waste and energy consumption.
OHSAS 18001 is the latest certification specification for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

Since the beginning of January, new region Sales Manager, Mr. Jukka Pekka Laitinen, works for Ilmarine to improve customer service on the domestic Finnish market.
Finnish state-owned and private enterprises hold one of the largest share in present Ilmarine’s market. Therefore new native sales professional with engineering background was hired to offer continuous customer support on the local Finnish market.
Ilmarine’s services are now available right next door and that way co-operation effectiveness with local businesses is being improved.
Jukka has 24 years of professional technical sales experience in Finnish, Swedish and Swiss power transmission industries.
Mechanical Engineering background is supported by impressive, two Master’s Degree Diplomas on business administration awarded by Tampere- and Tallinn University of Technology.

Since 2010 December, Ilmarine is contributing to the finnish railway infrastructure development by reconstructing Vantaakoski’ s railway station. The project was demanded by Finnish Transport Agency
Major contractor, Skanska, had entered into contract with Finnish Transport Agency to carry out Vantaakoski railway station reconstruction works.
Ilmarine is going to produce workshop drawings, manufacture steel structures and erect them on Finland site. Supply with the value exeeding 1 000 000 € includes passenger walkway, platform, two elevator shafts and two technical buildings.
Strict Finnish railway safety training is being carried out to handle the resposible job.
According to the plan, the finishing date will be end of July.

In 2010 December and 2011 January, Ilmarine AS continues to modernize Port of Tallinn by constructing and installing passenger gallery link with integrated KONE escalators.
Port of Tallinn will be the first harbour in Baltic States that uses mechanized staircases in its passenger gallery. KONE escalators allow exceptionally smooth people flow between existing gallery floors. Comfortable moving is guaranteed by increased safety and speed.
Ilmarine AS was the key player by being responsible for the structure’s production, transportation, equipment installation (including escalators) and overall erection. The new infrastructure element will be ready to serve passengers in the end of January.
Port of Tallinn is the biggest port authority in Estonia and as far as both cargo and passenger traffic are taken into account, the biggest port on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Ilmarine AS got on 13th of Nov 2010 a new Port of Gothenburg passenger gangway order from Stena Line, one of the world´s largest ferry companies for passengers and freight.

Old gangway was ripped from existing infrastructure, when docked ferry made unexpected movement in the storming waves.
This state-of-the-art machine is being developed in co-operation with Tallinn University of Technology. The design stands at the cutting edge and has significant advantages, such as safety and stabilising system, that monitors the position of the ship´s deck and follows its movements.
Turnkey project involves full project management: engineering & design, fabrication and installation in Port of Gothenburg. According to the plan, finishing deadline will be February 2011.

In the end of 2010 November, Ilmarine AS bought brand new CNC floortype horizontal milling and boring machine – Varnsdorf TOS WRD 150 Q.
Machine is the biggest of its kind in Estonia and allows to offer machining services at scale, that was not possible in the past and in the overall region.
The machine is intended for accurate and high-efficient coordinate boring, drilling, milling and thread-cutting particularly in the case of large-scale, heavy and structurally difficult work-pieces made of cast iron, cast steel and steel.

On the 14th Okt, Skanska visited Ilmarine in discussing different cooperation opportunities and ongoing projects.
Ilmarine AS has worked with Skanska in Port of Gothenburg by delivering and erecting successfully quay extension “dolphin”.

Ilmarine AS completes four welder’s certificates by additional pipe and plate MIG, MAG, TIG and MMA procedures.
Welder’s multi certification allows to offer flexible welding service with optimal cost.
Biggest advantage comes on working aboard, where very tight time schedules and high labor force costs make critical precentage of overall erection and installation procedure.
